Crickets  are sensitive to changes in air temperature. Their chirps speed up as the temperature gets warmer and slow down as it gets colder. It is possible to use the chirps of the male snowy tree cricket to gauge temperature . To convert cricket chirps to degrees Fahrenheit ,count the number of chirps in 14 seconds and then add 40 to get the temperature .

To convert to degree Celsius ,count the number of chirps in 25 seconds ,divide by 3 and then add 4 to get the temperature .
